Let’s Take A Look In The Mirror

It is classism at its finest, and we have to stop acting like it’s not happening. If you woke up in a different position or circumstance, you might think differently and wonder why black folks who’ve “made” it, are nowhere to be found. We spend a lot of time trying to convince people, especially white people, why all lives matter is not cool, but what we really need to do is remind black people, that when you say Black Lives Matter, saying those words mean nothing, if you do nothing. Being a Woman in a Man’s World: My Thoughts on Hillary with a Pinch of Pat Summitt

I must say this article is really less about Hillary, but about my views about how women should go about supporting each other. Let’s try to hold each other to the right standard and support them in the same way we support men. Let’s stop holding ourselves to a higher and more unrealistic standard, and stop burdening ourselves for no apparent reason. We make mistakes, we are human. If we aren’t forgiving our fellow women than we probably aren’t forgiving ourselves. And trust me, men are not thinking twice about it, and moving on to the next thing. But anyone familiar with popular culture may also think of waterfalls as referred by the 1995 single by the R&B trio, TLC. “Don’t go chasing waterfalls, please stick to your rivers and your lakes that you’re used to, … Continue reading Don’t Go Chasing Waterfalls… Well, Maybe Just a Little Bit (The Monday Fits)

Sweet Home Alabama: The Litmus Test of America

“If a law is unjust, a man is not only right to disobey, he’s obligated to do so” – Thomas Jefferson Since the story broke about the same-sex marriage fiasco in Alabama, my mind has been kind of in a frenzy. The story infuriates me on so many levels that I see red. I mean in 2015, the fact there were judges who were trying … Continue reading Sweet Home Alabama: The Litmus Test of America

“You say Nature, I Say Nurture” (The Monday Fits)

“Genes load the gun, environment pulls the trigger” – Dr. Scott Kahan The debate about nature versus nurture has always been intriguing to me. Are we a product of our environment, or do the genes of our parents and grandparents dictate our behaviors and decisions that we choose to make? There was a time when scholars were on the extremes of this topic. The theory … Continue reading “You say Nature, I Say Nurture” (The Monday Fits)
